Each group must maintain its position on the course with respect to the group in front of them. A competitor is subject to penalty if he unduly delays play. Rule 6-7 (Note 2) is in effect.
OUT OF POSITION: The first group is out of position if at any time during the round, the group completes play on a hole (replaces the flagstick) later than the time scheduled in the time chart (see top of SAJGA Player Scorecard). Following groups are out of position if (A) they have taken longer than the allotted time to play AND (B) are more than 14 minutes behind the preceding group. Timing of a group out of position will be handled by a member of the Rules Committee. Although the Rules Committee wil not inform groups when they are being monitored, they will inform them of their status any time they are asked. If timing of individual players is necessary, a player is allowed 45 seconds to complete their shot. Players will not be notified when they are being timed.
PACE OF PLAY CHECKPOINTS & PENALTIES: Actual time will be verified upon the completion of holes 9 & 18. When a group is out of position upon completion of its first 9 holes, each player in the group will be assesed a ONE-STROKE PENALTY and expected to regain its position on the course.
If a group has already incurred a one-stroke penalty at their first checkpoint and subsequently passes their second checkpoint out of position, each contestant in the group will be assessed an additional TWO-STROKE PENALTY. If a group passes their first checkpoint without receiving a penalty and subsequently passes their second checkpoint out of position, each contestant in the group will be assessed a ONE-STROKE PENALTY.
